Creating a beautiful and romantic wedding is something most couples spend long hours and a lot of money trying to achieve. But if you turn some of that focus to the lighting at the venue, you may find that setting the mood is much easier than expected. Here are three easy ways to do it.

Lanterns. There's something inherently classic about using lanterns for lighting. If you combine a decorative lantern with the flickering glow of candles, there's little else needed in order to have a romantic setting. Candle lanterns come in a variety of styles to fit your wedding's theme -- from a classic box style to star or heart shapes -- and can be accessorized with flowers, garlands, or crystals to complete the look. Use one (along with a few extra candles) for easy centerpieces on guest tables or hang large lanterns as focal points around places like the cake table. A hanging candle lantern over the bride and groom as they say, "I do," is a fun way to dress up a lackluster ceremony venue.

Chinese Lanterns. Paper lanterns soften and diffuse light to create a stunning, low light effect. Paper lanterns are also available in many styles ranging from traditional looks to geometric shapes. Use star shaped lanterns hung from the venue's ceiling to design a "starry night" wedding theme. Float a few in a water feature. Use them to line the ceremony aisle or the walkway leading guests to your wedding. Colored paper lanterns can also be used to add pops of soft color to a venue. For a romantic way to end your evening, consider floating a flame-lit sky lantern (or several) into the night sky.

String Lights. String lights—usually white—offer a lot of bang for your lighting buck. They can be used in lots of different ways to achieve different looks. If your venue has trees or posts around the guest area, consider wrapping these and leaving most ambient lighting unlit. Or string lights from the center of the ceiling to the outer walls to create a sea of stars above the festivities. Strings of lights in darker environments can line walkways to help guests find their way and light the aisle.

No matter what your taste is, you can find simple ways like these to enhance the romance in your wedding or reception. And then you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your beautiful and personalized big day.
