If you enjoy having your doors open during the warm weather but would like an option that allows you to gain easy entry and let you pull back the screen for a better view, you may have considered installing retractable door screens. While you are looking at the various models, look for the following before you make up your mind and buy them.

1.  How Well the Screen Slides When Opening or Closing It

Before you buy retractable screens for your doors, you want to know how well they slide when you open and close them. Many stores have the screens out on display to allow you to test them out.

While sliding the screen, pay attention to the force with which you have to use to move them. If you have to jerk on the screens to get them to glide, this could be a sign that they could be pulled off in the future. You want screens that will easily open and close with slight pressure.

Also, while testing out the screen, see if it pauses at all while in motion. You should be able to move the screen without it stopping until the end. If you do feel the screen pausing, try out a different model.

2.  Presence of Safety Bumpers

Another feature that you should consider when selecting retractable screens for your doors is the presence of safety bumpers. These bumpers provide weight that keeps the screens taut so that they do not fly back and forth in the wind.

They are also useful if you have pets or children who will be going in and out of the door. If the bumpers are properly balanced and weighted, the screen should bounce right back to its original position.

While testing out each door screen, walk briskly through the door, then turn around to see how the screen behaves. If it gets hung up or has an opening that does not automatically close, the screen may not have any or enough bumpers. Keep trying out other models until you find one that closes smoothly and automatically.

With the right features, a door screen that retracts allows you to have your door open without worrying about bugs getting inside, and it lets you, your family, and your pets have easy access during the day.
