Is It Worth Getting Seamless Rain Gutters?

When it comes to having gutters installed on your home, there are two options in order to do it. You can have the gutters installed by joining multiple sections together, or you can get seamless gutters. While having a continuous run of gutter material is ideal because there are fewer points where the gutters can break, it is not always practical. That is because many homeowners don't have the equipment to create seamless gutters and must buy them in small sections at your local home improvement store. Here are some reasons why it's worth paying for seamless gutters to be installed.

Fewer Leaks

The main benefit of having seamless gutters installed is that you are going to have fewer leaks in the gutter material. This is because you will no longer have seams where multiple sections are joined together, so it is a continuous path of material that allows the water to travel directly to your downspouts.

While it may seem like these seams are not going to be a problem, they often get worse after going through the winter. Water gets underneath the seams, it freezes, and then it lifts the gutter material and creates a gap. When this happens enough over a couple winters, the gutters eventually become damaged and start leaking water through the seam.

Better Appearance

Your desire to get seamless gutters may be due to how they look when they are installed on your home. It is a small detail, but having gutters with multiple seams in areas that can be seen curbside will not look as nice as a seamless gutter across the entire bottom edge of your roof. It is definitely something to consider if you have a higher end home and want a specific look for the exterior.

Fewer Sags

One thing to be aware of is that a seamless run of gutters is going to be a solid piece of material, so that slope going to the downspouts will remain over the years. When you have gutters that are joined together in sections, those joints can become a place where the material sags and water gets trapped in your gutters. This may be due to brackets coming loose, since debris in the gutters can weigh them down and pull on those brackets over time.
